Having trouble downloading a TikTok video? You are not alone. This guide covers every common cause and how to fix it.
Quick Fixes (Try These First)
- Copy the link again — Go back to TikTok, tap Share → Copy Link, and paste it fresh
- Clear your browser cache — Old cached data can interfere with the download process
- Try incognito/private mode — Rules out browser extensions causing issues
- Check your internet — Slow or unstable connections cause timeouts during download
- Try a different video — If only one video fails, it may be a video-specific issue
Error Messages and What They Mean
“Failed to parse video”
This means our server could not read the TikTok page. Causes:
- The link is expired (short links like vm.tiktok.com expire after some time)
- The video was deleted or made private
- TikTok changed their page format (happens occasionally)
Fix: Re-copy the link from TikTok. If still failing, try the full desktop URL format.
“No download URL available”
Our tool parsed the video but could not find a streamable video file. This happens with:
- Slideshow posts (image-only posts have no video file yet — try our slideshow downloader)
- Live streams (cannot be downloaded — they are real-time)
- Content under copyright takedown
Fix: Check if the post is actually a video (not images or live). If it is a real video, try again in a few minutes.
“Cookie required” (Douyin only)
Douyin videos are behind authentication. Without Cookie, the server sees a login wall instead of the video.
Fix: Configure your Douyin Cookie via the ‘Cookie’ section in the tool. See the Douyin downloader page for step-by-step instructions.
Advanced Fixes
VPN/Firewall Issues
Some corporate or school networks block TikTok CDN domains. Try:
- Switching to mobile data
- Using a VPN (any commercial VPN works)
- Testing on a different network
Browser Compatibility Issues
Our tool uses modern browser features. Make sure you are using:
- Chrome 90+
- Safari 15+
- Edge 90+
- Firefox 90+
Older browsers (including Internet Explorer) may not support the download process.
When It Is Not Our Fault
Sometimes the issue is on TikTok’s side:
- TikTok server outage — Check downdetector.com/tiktok/
- Regional TikTok restrictions — Some countries block TikTok entirely
- Account-level blocks — If TikTok flagged your IP, use a clean network
- Temporary API breakage — Wait 1-2 hours and retry; fetching failures caused by upstream changes are fixed as they are reported
Note: This is an independent project. If something stops working, retry in a few minutes first — many failures are upstream and resolve on their own.
